Thomas P. Rooney, DMD

Dr Thomas Rooney was born in Racine, Wisconsin and raised in Hannibal, Missouri.  He attended college at University of Notre Dame and then went on to Washington University in St Louis for his dental degree.  Subsequently he moved to Chicago for a dental residency at the University of Chicago, followed by two years in private practice.  Returning to the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor, he pursued research, teaching, and continued patient care. 

After seven years in general dentistry. Dr. Rooney went on for further training to Cleveland Metrohealth Medical Center for a hospital based residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  From there, he and his family moved to Lasalle County to begin the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ultimately being joined by Dr. Vaiana two years later.  He is on the staff of three hospitals: St Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa, Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru, and St Margarets Hospital in Spring Valley.  He has served on several hospital committees including Chairman of the Surgery Committee at SEMC.

He is currently a member of several organizations: the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,  American Dental Association, Illinois Dental Society of Anesthesiology (serving as President), and the Illinois Valley Dental Society (past President, past Program Chairman, and current Treasurer).

Dr. Rooney has resided in Ottawa for thirty years where, with his wife Mary, they raised their four children.
